Sounds like checksums were working exactly as advertised, then -- your
data was corrupted, and they detected it :-).

(I'm running over a linksys DSL router right now, and have done more
Subversion checkouts than I can count over it. Since we haven't heard
about this problem very much, I think it may be rather specific to
your hardware or your setup.)
