I always guessed that -r was a way to keep from exposing hard server
paths to clients so that if a repository needed to be physically
relocated, that fact could be hidden from clients (working copies
wouldn't be automatically invalidated, for example).

While playing around with svnserve for (pretty much) the first time
last night, I was really surprised that -r didn't work in tunnel mode.
