Neil, I would recommend being cautious until the checksum problem is
understood. It could be that the checksums are warning you of real
corruption; if that's the case, and that corruption is not specific to
the dav layer, then you might see it with ra_svn and ra_local too.

To the questions I asked in my earlier mail:

   Is that file
   
      demo/.svn/tmp/text-base/session_demo.cgi.svn-base
   
   left behind after the error? Can you look at it, and compare it with
   what you think it should be in the repository, and see what the
   difference is?

add this: can you use the md5sum utility to see whether the two files
match the printed checksums?
