We talked about it, and decided that there were many good changes
since then, and it might not be worth the time to merge them over to
the branch. (In other words, the general policy is case-by-case
practicality, not consistency; so whichever way Mike did it for this
release doesn't necessarily indicate how it will be done next time.)
  

Of course, but the 0.17 branch was created in order to /remove/ some
unfinished changes from that release, and they were still in the
mainline (and still unfinished) when 0.17.1 was to be released. That's
why I asked.
