Hmm, don't know why you weren't able to find the archived discussion,
but we did discuss it at length long ago, and decided not to do it.

The arguments for and against this practice can found all over the
Internet, so I won't repeat them here. Suffice it to say that it was
a long and impassioned thread on both sides, and we can't afford to go
through it every time someone joins the list :-).
