the critical point with subversion is the number of files it creates
in the working copy's .svn dir. so the biggest performance hit you
get by putting the working copy on a network drive (smb, or nfs or
whatever).

we ruled that out by saying "your fault, if you do that ....", and we
don't use any kind of "network-computer" which would not have a
proper disk.

and we are hoping for reiser4 and its
define-your-file-properties-as-you-like style, which should make
subversion client lightning fast :))
