Another thought that's flashed through my mind is that
the soon-to-come "blame" is very similar to this
functionality.

I believe "cat" is perfect (unless you're from
windows), so, assuming "cat" is used, a "--verbose"
flag could be passed to it to do "blame". (Just
hashing out ideas before my morning coffee, so please
feel free to bash them :-)
