oh, i completely agree that it should really be part of the documented
release procedure.

speaking of releases, someone who was sufficiently motivated could also
modify the dist.sh script so that it uses 'svn export' instead of checking
the source out and then going through and rming the .svn dirs by hand.
it seems kind of silly, since we have a command to do just this
already, and we aren't even using it.
