Oops...that's not accurate. I formed this opinion a few years ago and
wrote a disk-hog rev ctl kernel based (in essense) on "cp -r" --- but
that one just plain sucked (space-wise, as I could have figured out if
I did the math first), I got distracted by other matters, and forgot
about the issue until late last year when it came up while roughing
out a new config/build system and package manager.

Now in 5 years, that "cp -r" approach may again (for local access)
start to make sense (is my guess).
