Could you spell out exactly what you've been advocating all along?
I'm having trouble piecing people's positions together, partially due
to the rash of misunderstandings on this topic.

I agree very much with this. I'm absolutely in favor of supporting
unmergeable file formats and reservation models, but somehow I've been
tagged as an "anti-lock" person, and no matter what I actually say,
that's all people seem to hear. It's a bit odd, and a bit
frustrating.
