How build a completely static client

I want tio build a completely static client. How i can do this ??
I haven't any experience with libtool so i don't know how hack Makefile
to do this. I have seen ftp://ftp.phunnypharm.org/pub/svn/clients/ so
i think that this isn't to much difficult.
