Commenting just on the "compatible with DAV" issue, not on the
"locking with properties" issue:

I think it's more important for the locking system be helpful to
developers than to be compatible with DAV. I don't like the idea of
justifying our application's behavior on the basis of how compatible
it is with our network protocol. I think Subversion should be a
version control system first, and a DAV implementation second, or
fifth, or something.

This is not an anti-DAV post. I have no idea what semantics DAV's
locking methods have. Even if they're great, that doesn't change my
point.
