But Mozilla is an file:// protocol "client" ! A lot of programs and
libraries allow access to local resources by using "file://" URLs in a
consistent way (that is, I can grab a file:// URL I opened in a browser
and paste this into wget or OpenOffice or my own programs and it still
works ...)
IMHO a file-URL should work the same way in any program on a single machine.

+1, I agree with that.

"file://" is the "file system API protocol", not "subversion repository
stored in files API protocol". "file://" can be used to locate the
subversion repository itself (using usual file:// semantics), but it
IMHO makes little sense to use different semantics for path components
following the repository folder.

I'm not sure whether it's really important to fix that now, but it's
probably much more difficult if sv is widely used ...
