how to set svn:ignore to more than one pattern?

Hi

Following someone's posting about removing ignoring some files,
I'm now trying to add ignoring some files.

If I do this from my working copy:

        svn propset svn:ignore 'tn-*.jpg' dir1 dir2 dir3

it works fine. Problem is I want to ignore a second pattern too.
I tried using comma, pipe (a la egrep), space, but all failed
and wound up overwriting the previous ignore value.

I can't see anything in 'man svn' or 'svn help [propset]' on
how to do this, but it must be possible, right?

Also, if I want to *add* a pattern, I guess, since this property
presumably doesn't inherently know it'll be set to a list, that
I have to get the current value, and do the 'sum' in my head,
and then set it again, right?

Many thanks!

Alexis
