Right. And loading into a repository with existing data is trivial, and
loading at a specified root is trivial.

Dumping subtrees might get more complicated, though, because of the
referencing issues, so I'd agree with you and punt. Dumping subranges could
be difficult because of the referencing again, so you may need to punt
subranges, too.

In any case: I'm guessing that Ben has more than enough info to move onto
designing a concrete format and start some coding...
