Absolutely not. This was one of my primary reasons for *hating* automake.
The day that I did "make distclean" and it re-ran autoconf, ran configure,
and *then* cleaned... I resolved to forego automake in SVN and every other
project that I have any possible influence on. That behavior is detestable.
When I want to pick up config changes, then I'll do it manually.
