Just as an FYI, it boiled down to that the updated version of the XDelta
code that you'd actually want is only in the filesystem package.
Additionally, vdelta probably will create smaller deltas.

However, this doesn't really matter because the repository itself needs
lots of administrative meta-data space to make it as efficient as
possible.

Space saved in the delta format doesn't necessarily result in space
savings in the resulting repository.
