If I could suggest a different bike shed color before it's too late:
--setlocale=foo is redundant; I would prefer --locale=foo.

(I would also favor a flag which produces machine-readable output, but
I'm not sure if we want N different flavors of it just to make life a
little bit easier for various scripting languages.)
