As it turns out, I tried what we talked about on the phone, using a
variable FS_BASED_TEST_HELPERS to conditionally hold the string
"fs-helpers.c", but the problem I ran into was that when the Makefile
got generated, the SOURCES line had fs-helpers.c in it, but the
OBJECTS line did not. And rather than figure out what the hell was
going on, I grabbed the Autoconf/automake/libtool book here in the
office and started a-readin'. I like the new solution better anyway,
though.
