Hmm, hmm, hmm. Your argument has merit. There's also the old adage
about foolproof programs.

I'd be quite happy if we could "promise" that someday it'll be possible
to write a script on the SVN server side to, e.g., reject an export
if an explicit tag wasn't supplied; or reject a commit if there were
merge conflicts; etc., etc. Then all of this boils down to putting
examples into contrib/ (once we have it).
