Hmm, ghostscript had some problems along these lines, though, as Stallman
claimed that implementing the readline API and telling the user to link it
themselves (optionally, not even mandatorily) caused GPL taint. I had a
URL for the story but don't right now, I can dig it up if people are
interested.
