Checking in directory properties without recursion

From: Bill Wohler <wohler_at_newt.com>

How do I check in the properties for a directory without recursion? I
just realized that there is a -N flag, but the files in the directory
would be checked in.

For example, I added some externals definitions to my project's root
directory but I've got a billion other things going on that I do not
want to check in. How do I check in those externals definitions without
check in anything else?
