status and log failed to show new version available

Hey people,

I had a file in my sandbox called "resources.shtml". A teammate checked
in a new version, but svn status didn't show that there was a new
version available, and svn log on the file only showed the versions up
to the one I had. svn update pulled down the new version, but how was I
supposed to know that there was a new version available? I thought that
a simple "svn status" would show that.

Thanks,
Mike
