Turns out going this route works. I removed libdb44.dll from system32
then ran the SVN installer. All works fine - which I guess is not
surprising since the SVN installer will have stuck a copy of that DLL
into the path.

As a historical note I have never run any previous SVN installers on
this machine - and don't have a copy of libdb43.dll anywhere else. This
issue thus didn't affect the SVN 1.3.x based JavaHL.

Does seem to be a real issue here which will bite when the 1.4 DLLs are
used in an eclipse plugin *only*. Probably with how the other DLLs in
the SVN 1.4 package are built wrt being used in eclipse. I came across
the following article which seems to indicate there can be problems with
this ...

http://dev.eclipse.org/newslists/news.eclipse.tools/msg27534.html

Of course not being a windows guru I could be way off the mark here!
Cheers,

                Geoff.
