SVN out-of-the-box web interface improvements somewhere?

I have successfully set up our company SVN 1.9.7 server to synchronize
to a backup box running Ubuntu Server 16.04-3LTS and therefore svn
1.9.3 since that is the latest available for that platform.
It all now works well and since I live closest to the mirror I want to
use that as my server to get faster responses.

Now I would like to know if there are ways to improve the web view of
the svn repositories on the Ubuntu mirror box so that also some
information regarding the displayed files and directories can be
shown?

I found references to the /tools/xslt directory in the svn source tree
where presumably a few files dealing with the looks reside.
I have checked out the svn sources and found the two files, but I
don't really know how the display will look like if I try to apply
these. And of course exactly how to apply them...

Is there some existing howto available with instructions and also
example page displays?

I tried searching with google but almost all hits are about installing
svn and talk nothing about customizing the web view. Or they are on
StackOverflow and get downvoted because they are too general
questions...
