General answer: that shouldn't happen.
But you've provided very little detail, so it's hard to give further
help. What version of svn are you using on the client (and which OS),
and what version of svn on the server? What were the exact commands
you did, and the exact error message? Can you reproduce the problem
(if so, steps to reproduce?)?
