If I changed the http:// access port, do I need to checkout my working copy or I can just switch to the "new" address, or there is no affect my existing working copy?

Many ISPs block port 80 unless you purchase a “commercial grade” internet connection. Check your terms and conditions. You’ll probably find some language that explicitly prohibits you from running a server.
