Probably not. Version 1.4 is old, actually ancient and if there was a bug in it that causes your issue, it will never be fixed. There have been so many improvements in 1.5.X, 1.6.X, 1.7.X, and 1.8.X that you really, really should upgrade. Even if you only go to 1.7.X which is what is supported in CentOS 6 you will get much better results, but if you are going to upgrade anyway, find an external repo that is hosting 1.8.X for CentOS 6.X and upgrade all the way to 1.8.11.
