You'd need to patch the client.

I've just committed a fix: http://svn.apache.org/r1628398
I don't know if we can backport this change. We usually avoid
changing any interface behaviour in release branches. So you might
have to wait for Subversion 1.9 until you can drop the workaround
from your script.
