svn: E120104: ra_serf: An error occurred during decompression error

Hi guys

we get this error "svn: E120104: ra_serf: An error occurred during
decompression" when trying to checkout

svn server verion is : 1.7.7

svn client version : 1.8.8

what could be the issue here , please advice ?
