The binary he has was built on his system using MacPorts. However I’m not yet sure whether he rebuilt all his dependencies after upgrading to Mavericks, which we do require users to do after upgrading the OS.

On my Mavericks system, svnserve 1.8.4, built using MacPorts, does not crash.
