Hans, I don't know if you've been following issue #4332
(http://subversion.tigris.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=4332), but I've
committed a fix to a backport branch and have proposed it for inclusion in
our next 1.7.x release.

If you are able to do so, you might want to try out the patch (and offer
feedback, thanks!), you can fetch it from http://s.apache.org/N24
