Although I am mindful of the fact that at least one person is growing tired of this thread,

 The problem that you describe in your answer has nothing to do with Subversion. That is, the problems of transferring a text file from Mac to PC on a USB stick has always existed, independently of Subversion.

 Still, is it necessary to modify the SVN Handbook to make sure people don't make mistakes?
