Be patient, most people on this list also have real work to do ;), not to mention sleep once in a while.

Maybe it's some kind of client-side firewall issue? I'm not an expert on how XP's standard firewall works (or any other firewall software you might have installed), but it might be accidentally configured to block your svn commit request. Maybe you can try to disable any possible firewalls that could be interfering.

Strange thought that update gets through, while commit doesn't. They do different kinds of (WebDAV) requests of course, but still...

Have you tried with an svnserve server?

Oh and one more thing (if all the above doesn't help): can you "svn info" the directory where your modifications are, and one of the modified items themselves, and send that info to the list (feel free to obfuscate any filenames, authors, ...)?
