post-commit script not executing

I'm working on a post-commit hook script to update a working copy of the repository after every commit. It works fine when I execute the post-commit batch directly from the command line, but when I make a normal commit in a working copy it seems the post-commit batch file isn't executed at all. It won't even print basic statements to a log file. I don't understand why the post-commit isn't executing? Help.
