Is there a better solution for XLS and DOC files other than Subversion?

As the subject suggests, I have a repository were the vast majority os space is taken by Excel spreadsheets or Word documents. This repository has grown a lot during the past months, more than our source code repository in years.

It's not a huse issue, we still have plenty of disk space but I was wondering if there is a better versioning system for, basically, binary files.
