svnsync creates root owned directories

I'm running a repository mirror on a machine that I don't have root access
to. I created the repository using my account and have a cron job set to run
svnsync. I want to delete the repository but while the rev and revprop
directories list me as the owner, all their sub-directories list root as
owner. Does anybody have any idea how this could happen, or how I can
prevent it? I can't imagine svnsync is running as root.
