Hi Rob,

I obstructed the file by replacing it w/ a symlink.

I tried your repro and it also works for me. So I suspect the problem
is related to the obstruction being a symlink.

SVN 1.6.4
Gentoo Linux (kernel 2.6.30.3)
gcc 4.1.2.
Please let me know if you'd like more environment details.
