api call to get eligible and merged revisions from mergeinfo ?

hi,

in one of the edgewall trac tickets there was a discussion on how best
to retrieve eligible and merged revisions. what would be the best api
call from a python programm to get:
 * svn mergeinfo --show-revs eligible
 * svn mergeinfo --show-revs merged
?

the current implementation in python gives a very good view on it, but
seems much too slow, see http://trac.edgewall.org/ticket/8459.
