SubVersion slow on commits?

Hi

I use SubVersion as a photography repository. I have a checkout on my
laptop and a central file server in my LAN with the repository. I have
noticed that commits are *very* slow. It can only do < 1mb/s over
100mbit/s LAN. CPU usage on svnserve -t is about 80-100%.

Is this really what I can expect? Or do I need to tweak something to
get better performance on large (2-20MB) binary files?

The files are set to binary types. When I add them to svn, I see
'(bin)' in front of every file name.

I use svn+ssh protocol.

I have checked that ssh is not the bottleneck by transfering large
amounts of data via scp and rsync over ssh.

Med venlig hilsen/Kind regards
