404 errors on server logs during merge

I have been looking at subversion 1.6.1. We are currently using 1.5.4. We currently get a substantial number of 404 errors due to moved branches. In 1.5.4, we see other errors at the same time the 404 comes out. It does appear to be cleaner in 1.6.1, but I am wondering if there is some work that will be done to eliminate the 404 problem. The interesting thing is that a repository is a temporal space but the retrieval appears to use the current state of the repository to construct the source list. Is there a reason the image of the repository at the time of the revision can't be generated?
