svnadmin verify - 1.6.2 performance issue

When using `svnadmin verify reponame` on RHEL4 with svn 1.4.2, it takes approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes to complete on a repo that has 60,000 revisions.

When running `svnadmin verify reponame` on RHEL5 with svn 1.6.2, it has taken 1 hour and 30 minutes to verify up to revision 4700. At this rate the entire verify will take well over 20 hours.

Has anybody else seen these issues, and does anybody have an idea where the poor performance is coming from?
