If you are using the Subversion package provided by Ubuntu, you can see if
Ubuntu has decided to provide a package for the latest version. When I
checked on Ubuntu forums, the general answer seemed to be "why do you want
something newer than what Ubuntu provides?" That wasn't what I wanted to
hear.

I ended up using no package and building from source. That way, the
binaries go where the Subversion team intends, I can build new versions
whenever I decide to, and I get to know how my build went.

The instructions provided in the source tree gave me enough to understand
how to build and control where things got installed. The release notes for
Subversion gave me what I needed to understand the effect of new features
and changes.

You might find other packages for Ubuntu, but I don't have any experience
with those.

Erik
