From what I can tell, there isn't a heck of a lot of difference between SVN
1.4 and 1.5. Merge is still not what you'd expect, and I believe if you dig
hard enough, you'll find the same thoughts within the SVN mailing list.
We went through this same exercise a few months ago and I can tell you that
if you're considering SVN and Accurev, you're probably in the same place we
were. Not thinking about the future. Not thinking about the overall process
improvements. Not thinking about the increased parallel development and code
sharing, renaming, refactoring, scripting, administration, etc. I found a
recent comparison on cmcrossroads, but lost it. See if they would be willing
to point it out to you. I doubt the company would put comparisons out if
they were only propoganda. That would just make them look stupid.
If you don't have to branch, merge, offshore, manage parallel product
versions, etc., SVN is probably good enough. Once anything beyond simple
version control comes into play, why mess around with another evaluation in
year or two. Don't make our mistake, make the right move today.
