I went through this a while back. With a sed script, changes to
the makefile, a special .h file, changes to svn export,
and a special .c file that doesn't get checked in, I
got it working on Unix, but not Windows.

What I'd ask for is a fundamental $GlobalRev$ property that gets
updated whenever any file in the subtree gets checked in. Then
we wouldn't need the hacks, the FAQs, and the platform dependencies.
