svn: At least one property change failed; repository is unchanged

Hi all,

I got this message while running a script to mechanically update a
repository:

svn: At least one property change failed; repository is unchanged

As part of the process, the script appends a line to a particular
property on a directory and commits it.

The property is now quite large:

> wc prop
   5802 11604 999744 prop

Is there some inherent limit to the size of a property? I can't figure
out any other reason the commit would just stop working all of a sudden.

Thanks.
