IMHO this is by far the sanest approach.

Suggestion: Eclipse has a pretty nice HTML editor as part of its Web
Tools Platform. Plus, Subclipse is a very slick integrated front-end
to Subversion, and Eclipse is thoroughly cross-platform :-)
