svnserve --tunnel-user question

Hi,

I have question about the --tunnel-user option to svnserve:
Does the name I pass to that option have to be the name of an existing
user account, or is this just the name being used to label commits?
The documentation seems to suggest the latter, but I'm not sure about
the terminology (What's a commit identity?) and I should be sure
before I bother my sysadmin during the holiday season to set up extra
accounts for me ;-)
