Can't open '...': Is a directory error

Hi,

I am moving a Subversion repository from machine to another

From: Fedora Core 4 with Subversion 1.2.0

To: Debian 4.0 with Subversion 1.4.2

I used the standard method described, for example, on

        http://www.petefreitag.com/item/665.cfm

Now when we do checkouts on the new machine, sometimes it works fine
and other times we get errors like

        svn: In directory 'vesgen/samples/orig_1999'
        svn: Can't open 'vesgen/samples/orig_1999/.svn/tmp/8DPOv.
16-6-8C.P1#C8.TL.tmp.tmp': Is a directory

and

svn: Can't open file 'vesgen/reports/.svn/lock': Is a directory

I did some searches but I can't find any information about this kind
of error. Any thoughts?

Thanks in advance.
