SVN 1.5 and 64 bit Windows

Hello,

I have read several posts about whether a 64 bit version of SVN is
available, and most of the responses I have found are no, and that the
32 bit runs fine so there is no real reason to create a 64 bit version.
My company is going through the process of upgrading all of our Windows
environments to Win 2003 x64 or Win 2008 x64. As part of this effort, I
am trying out SVN on Win2003 x64, and my first experience is that it is
extremely slow. The repository I am working with is fairly large (4
GB), and to view the log of a single file takes over 45 min. I started
looking around for articles about 32 bit applications running on 64 bit
Windows, and found this article which provides a good summary:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/896456

Basically the 64 bit OS is using a subsystem called
Windows-32-on-Windows-64 or WOW64 for short. I followed up with some IT
guys here, and they said that running 32 bit apps over WOW64 is
incredibly slow because all IO is duplicated (I may be way off here, I
am just paraphrasing). Anyway, given that, has anyone else experienced
massive performance decreases by running on a Win 64 OS? If so, is
there a 64 bit version in the works? If not, are there any workarounds
for speeding things up?

Thanks,

Ryan
